  • Children’s Champion

    Fri 22 May 2026

The aim of Rochdale Borough Children’s Council is to give children and young people of the Borough between the ages of 8-11 a voice which will be heard and listened to by the Local Authority, Police Authority, NHS and many other agencies who have the interests and views of children and young people as a high priority.

The Children’s Champion chair the Children’s Council meetings and they work together to campaign and progress with manifesto points.

This year, a number of our children in years 4 and 5 applied to be Rochdale’s Children’ Champion. Four children were fortunate enough to be taken through to the interview stage:

    Abeera ,Rania, Safa and Zunaira.

After shortlisting from over 80 application forms, 27 young people attended the interview day on the 16th May 2026.  At the interview day, children did presentations about their campaign points, joined in with creative activities and participated in team building activities in which they used communication skills, team work skills, and shared their ideas.  The current Children’s Champions and children’s council members were also observing and making notes through the day to help decide who goes through to the elections.

After long discussions and sharing of notes taken throughout the day, everyone involved agreed on the following 9 candidates who have made it through to the next stage of the democratic elections. Of these 9 children, we are delighted to share that Rania is one of them. There will now be a voting process taking pace across all Rochdale primary schools.

We are sure you would like to join us in wishing Rania good luck!
