Year 2 have continued the impress us all year and have been working very hard.
In the Spring term we had a Geography focus, learning all about Amazing Africa! We looked at Nairobi in Kenya and learnt about the Masai Tribe and how they live. The children really enjoyed crafting their own Masai beaded necklaces and naming the continents with the continents song.
This half term in History we will be learning about how significant women changed history, focusing on Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai. The children brought in some amazing homework that staff were very impressed with.
We have continued our Science theme of Animals, living things and their habitats into the summer term. It has been nice to able to get outside more and look at the environment and wildlife around us in school. This term we have be learning about and creating our own food chains.
In English, the children have been writing about The Clean-Up Crew, exploring the importance of caring for our beaches and understanding how plastic pollution affects marine animals. This work has linked nicely to our Geography topic, where we have been learning about seas and coasts. The children have especially enjoyed learning the names of the oceans and creating fact files about Blackpool.
We do still have morning and afternoon nursery places available in September 2026. If you are interested please pick up an application form from the school office.
Thank you.
At Marland Hill, we are learning a new sign every week. Why not learn with us at home too!
Every week children that display good manners are chosen to sit at the Captain’s Table for dinner. Well done to the following children that have been selected to sit at the Captain’s Table.

The next instalment of £10 for the Residential visit is now overdue. This can be paid on parent mail or cash at the office.
Thank you.
On Wednesday, the children took part in our House Dodgeball Competition. They worked together with children from different year groups to represent their house teams. Throughout the event, the children were fantastic, demonstrating excellent teamwork, encouraging one another and showing outstanding sportsmanship.
The House Captains and Deputies were exceptional throughout the day. They displayed excellent leadership by guiding their house teams, supporting the younger children, encouraging their teammates and ensuring that everyone could enjoy the event. Their behaviour was exemplary throughout the event and they were fantastic role models for all the children.
After a very competitive competition, the results were as follows:
1st: Air
Joint 2nd: Earth and Water
4th: Fire
Congratulations to Air on their victory, and well done to all the children for their enthusiasm, teamwork and positive attitude throughout the competition.
