Arts Award Explore
A group of gifted and talented Year 6 children have recently achieved the official award of Arts Award Explore which is awarded by the Arts Council. These children are Sehar, Sam, Lucy, Holly and Zara.
They visited Touchstones Art Gallery in Rochdale where they were shown around the ‘Natural Makers’ exhibition by ceramic artist Sue Hudson before taking part in her bespoke workshop ‘Slips and Grogs’. Inspired by other art work in the galleries, the children researched Georgia O’Keeffe.
Local artist Rosie Hunt worked with the children exploring printing techniques (mono and screen printing), batik and acrylic texturing. Inspired by batik effects they went on to research Jackson Pollock. They also visited Matthew Moss High School for several sessions to explore clay modelling techniques.
The children took an active part in these activities creating their own responses, reflecting on their work and were inspired to create an individual arts piece. Finally, they presented their arts journey to their class peers.
We are all very proud of their achievements!
The Year 6's did a great job of getting to the semi finals of the IPLCN Football Competition but unfortunately lost out on penalties.
The children played a great game and represented the school brilliantly. Well done!
Rochdale Diversity Awards 2016
Marland Hill, working alongside Hamer Primary School and Rochdale Sixth Form College were delighted to be nominated for the Rochdale Diversity Awards 2016 by Mr Yasin Khan, Equality and Community Cohesion Officer for Rochdale Borough Council.
Rochdale Diversity Awards are now in their 5th Year and aim to recognise and promote positive role models from diverse backgrounds and organisations to empower and inspire the wide breadth of communities within Rochdale.
We were finalists in the "Diversity in Education Award", along with Wardleworth Community Learning Centre and Maker Space Project. Representatives from the Community Cohesion Project attended the Town Hall on Thursday 26th May for the Awards Evening and although we didn't win, we did have the opportunity to celebrate the fabulous work that we do and it was lovely for this to be recognised by so many.
