Art Award

Arts Award Explore

A group of gifted and talented Year 6 children have recently achieved the official award of Arts Award Explore which is awarded by the Arts Council. These children are Sehar, Sam, Lucy, Holly and Zara.

They visited Touchstones Art Gallery in Rochdale where they were shown around the ‘Natural Makers’ exhibition by ceramic artist Sue Hudson before taking part in her bespoke workshop ‘Slips and Grogs’. Inspired by other art work in the galleries, the children researched Georgia O’Keeffe.

Local artist Rosie Hunt worked with the children exploring printing techniques (mono and screen printing), batik and acrylic texturing. Inspired by batik effects they went on to research Jackson Pollock. They also visited Matthew Moss High School for several sessions to explore clay modelling techniques.

The children took an active part in these activities creating their own responses, reflecting on their work and were inspired to create an individual arts piece. Finally, they presented their arts journey to their class peers.

We are all very proud of their achievements!
