Year 6 will be going to Rochdale Pioneers Museum on Friday 10th October. Children will be walking to the museum and back with members of school staff, so please ensure your child wears their school uniform and a suitable coat, hat, shoes etc. according to the weather.
The children will take part in a workshop as part of the visit so we are asking parents for a voluntary contribution of £2 towards the cost of this. This can be made with the shop section of parent mail.
You will need to complete the consent form on parent mail, which can be found in the forms section. Please complete this as soon as possible.
We will be holding a Tapestry workshop on Thursday 25th September 3:05pm - 3:25pm. This is an opportunity to see how we use Tapestry at Marland Hill and a chance for staff to assist with any logging on issues.
Please come to the normal doors.
We look forward to seeing you.
Year 1 will be going to Tommy Tumble Town Role Play Centre this will now be on Monday 20th October. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore around their topic of toys. Children will be travelling to and from the venue via coach with members of staff from school. Children will have grab bags on the day.
School is heavily subsiding the cost of this visit, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £10. If we do not receive sufficient funds the visit will be cancelled.
Please complete the consent form on parent mail, by going to parent mail/forms. Please go to parent mail/payments/shop to pay the voluntary contribution.
Below are the weekly attendance winners for each class. Please help support this achievement by reminding our winners and parents that they are to look after the prizes and they must be returned to school on Monday.

Please can we remind parents/carers to be cautious on the footpaths and roads around school. There have been numerous incidents of children running across busy roads. Thank you.
Rochdale Council is constantly trying to fill all their vacant crossing point within the borough, they are currently advertising on greater jobs for permanent positions, and also need casual staff to help cover absences. If you wish to apply for the role of a School Crossing Patrol please follow the link https://apply.greater.jobs/rochdale/Job/JobDetail?jobid=1769.
Thank you.
Next week in History Year 1 will be looking at games from the past and particularly looking at puppets. Please could you bring in any clean odd sock/glove you no longer want so your child can make a sock puppet?
Thanks

As part of their Greek topic, Year 4 will be having a visit from Touchstones who will be doing a workshop named: The Ancient Greek Artefacts. This will take place on Thursday 25th September in school. This is an exciting opportunity for the children.
School will be heavily subsiding the cost, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £2. You can pay for this on parent mail by going to payments/shop.
As children move from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, they often face a number of changes—new routines, increased expectations, and a more structured learning environment. This step up can feel exciting but also a little daunting for some pupils, especially as they adjust to greater independence and new social dynamics. Supporting their emotional wellbeing during this time is key to helping them settle in and thrive.
Below are five simple strategies you might like to share with parents to help them support their child at home:
Talk About the Day: Encourage parents to ask open-ended questions like “What made you smile today?” or “Was anything tricky?” to help children process their experiences and emotions.
Keep Routines Predictable: A consistent morning and evening routine can help children feel secure and prepared for the day ahead. Visual schedules at home can also be reassuring.
Celebrate Effort, Not Just Achievement: Remind parents to praise their child’s effort and resilience, especially when they try something new or overcome a challenge.
Create a Calm Space: Suggest setting up a quiet corner at home where children can go to relax, read, or take a break when they feel overwhelmed.
Model Positive Coping Strategies: Parents can help by showing how they manage stress or disappointment—whether it’s through deep breathing, talking things through, or taking a walk.
Changes in routines and worry about new expectations can make it tricky for children to sleep. I have also included a sleep resource that can be shared with parents which looks at regulation for bedtimes.
Around 4 in 10 children will experience a sleep problem at some point and this rises to 8 out of 10 children where there is a diagnosis of Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND). These problems are typically persistent and do not resolve themselves without intervention. Find out more, including how to help by going to: Children’s Sleep eBook - The Sleep Charity
