A reminder that after Easter the tuck shop will be 10 pence per item. This is for KS2. Thank you
Year 6 had a lovely time this week visiting the Imperial War Museum.
Mrs Thorndyke is taking early retirement, and leaving us today after 24 years working at Marland Hill. She will be very much missed by us all. During her time at Marland Hill, Mrs Thorndyke has worked with many children, in small groups, as well as working 1:1. She has been a big part of the fundraising events for the school. Her creativity and organisation has also been invaluable in events such as the leavers’ discos, and performances in school. We will miss her lots, and wish her well in her early retirement. Goodbye Mrs Thorndyke!
This week is sign language week and to celebrate this, the pupils have been learning a 'sign of the day'. Here are the signs that we have been learning. Why not try these at home with your family.
Last week it was science week and the focus was time. In year 2 we based our time experiment on timing how long different jellies would take to set. We chose different ingredients to put inside our jellies and made our predictions on which jelly would set first.
As part of the Geography theme in year 2 we are studying Kenya and comparing the similarities and differences to Rochdale. To enhance our knowledge further we are studying the African traditions and how different their lives are to ours in Rochdale. The children loved learning about the Masai tribes and enjoyed making African jewellery. Continuing with the African theme in art we are studying an African artist called Edward Tinga Tinga. His work is based around drawing patterns in African animals. The children will be creating their own pictures of animals filled with African patterns.
In English we have been writing a narrative based on the story ‘Wild’ by Emily Hughes. The children enjoyed reading this story and wrote some wonderful narratives and had to think carefully about how and where they could add in the key features.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the parents that came to our year 2 reading morning. The children really enjoyed reading to all the adults.
Every week during PE, Coaches will be choosing pupils to be their PE superstars of the week. Well done to the following children who were fantastic in PE last week:
