The Reception children have had a wonderful time in our role play areas over the last few weeks. Last half term we had ‘Marland Hill Clothes and Shoe Shop.’ Some of the children loved working on the cash desk and serving customers, whilst others loved dressing up and putting together their own outfits. As you can see some of our children have a real eye for fashion!
To link in with our new topic ‘All Around the World’ the role play area has now transformed into ‘Marland Hill Travel Agents.’ The children have enjoyed looking at the maps and holiday brochures and booking their summer holidays. Our travel agents have been very helpful with their holiday advice and have demonstrated a good awareness of the world and some of it’s countries. So far this topic we have looked at the country of Pakistan as a contrasting location to the United Kingdom. This week we are looking at the country of Kenya to link in with our story ‘Handa’s Hen’ by the author Eileen Brown. Next week we will look at Australia to link in with our story ‘The Koala Who could’ by the author Rachel Bright.
Just before the half term break the children in Year 6 came down to share the traditional tales they had written with the Reception children. The Reception children listened really well to the stories and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the older children in school. Some of the children got to listen to stories read by their older siblings and cousins. It was a lovely experience for all the children involved.
Every week children that display good manners are chosen to sit at the Captain’s Table for dinner. Well done to the following children that have been selected to sit at the Captain’s Table.

On Monday 9th June, select children from our school were invited to go to Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre to take part in a sailing media day.
Some more fantastic pieces of homework from Year 4. The volcanoes look fabulous, some children were able to erupt theirs using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We can’t wait to see more!
The workshop was run by the engineering department at Manchester University. The children completed a robotics challenge where they had to look at the 5 features of a robot and then create their own robot based on these features. The robot they created had to be able to survive in the ocean! The children created annotated diagrams and then made a 'grabber' which they got to take home.
At Ordsall Hall the children were guided around a Tudor house by 'characters in role.' They explored the different rooms, learning about where Tudors ate, cooked, slept, gardened and entertained. The children had opportunities to dress up, create spices for food, create herb potions to warn evil spirits away and dance! There was also a question and answer session at the end!
Year 5 children will be walking to the Town Hall for the graduation ceremony on Thursday 19th June, accompanied by school staff, leaving school at approximately 12.45pm. We will then return to school at a slightly later time at 3.45pm
Please ensure you complete and return the consent form that was sent home last week as soon as possible. Thank you.
