  • Year Group Focus - Year 1

    Fri 15 Nov 2024

We are thrilled to be back in school after the half term and we are working harder than ever. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of homework we have received after the holidays linked to our topic of weather. Have a look at some of the fantastic examples. It is not too late to bring in work if you have completed some at home.

In Autumn 1 we had a history focus, looking at old toys and how they have changed over the years. We enjoyed looking at the toys that our grandparents would have played with and comparing them to the toys we have now.

In art we have been looking at comparing Beatrix Potter and Romero Britto. We looked at exploring texture, patterns and colour and created some pastel bears in the style of Beatrix Potter. The children experimented with wax resist and brusho to create some colourful bears in the style of Romero Britto. Look at our amazing work!

Our topic for this half term is a geography focus, answering the question ‘Is the weather the same all year round?’ We will be looking at the daily weather patterns in the United kingdom focussing on Rochdale.

    Handling school drop off anxiety

Separation anxiety is a normal part of child development. Young children switch between wanting to be independent and needing to cling to the security of a parent/carer. If your child is shy or timid you will find helping them cope with separation will make them more confident in school and improve their education.

Tips for effective transitions in to school.

    · Let your child know you are leaving in a predictable routine way. Do not sneak away to avoid a tantrum as this will only increase your child’s anxiety.

    · Say goodbye briefly and say something positive about their time away from you. i.e. “I will see you later, have a lovely time playing with your friends today.”

    · Let them know who will be picking them up and when. i.e. “Daddy is picking you up at 3.20.”

    · Encourage your child’s independence by giving simple instructions. i.e. “hang your coat up and go and sit on the carpet.”

    · Avoid giving to much attention to your child’s normal protests.

    · Separate quickly and allow school staff to comfort your child if needed.

    · When you return let your child know you are happy to see them and show interest in their day.

  • Silent Disco Year 3/4

    Fri 15 Nov 2024

On Thursday evening we held our first Marland Hill Silent Disco. The children in Years 3 and 4 who attended had a great time singing and showing off their dance moves. It was also lovely to see some of the children dressed up in their fancy dress costumes. We will be holding a Silent Disco for children in other year groups later in the school year. These will be displayed on the school calendar when the dates have been decided and parents and carers will be notified when tickets become available.
