Year Group Focus—Year 6
Fri 21 Mar 2025This half term, our topic is 'World War Two'. We are studying different aspects of WW2 in English and also in some of the foundation subjects.
In English, we are reading 'Goodnight Mr Tom'. We have written a letter in role as an evacuee and we are writing a story about a child being evacuated to the countryside.
In History, our enquiry question is 'What was it like to be an evacuee?'. We have looked at the causes of the war, rationing and designed our own propaganda posters.
In DT, we have researched Anderson shelters. We have designed our own and are in the process of making them.
Earlier this half term, we went on a visit to The Imperial War Museum North. We looked at different artefacts and enjoyed participating in the interactive exhibitions.
We have borrowed a box of WW2 artefacts from Touchstones. The children enjoyed looking at the items and trying some of them on!
In addition, in Science our topic is 'Electricity'. We have made circuits and investigated how changing the number of batteries affects the brightness of the bulb.

Comic Relief
Fri 21 Mar 2025It is Comic Relief today! The children looked amazing in their red clothes for Red Nose Day. We are so proud to announce that we raised an amazing £249. How fantastic! Thank you to everyone for all your kind donations, it is very much appreciated.

TTRS Top of the Rocks competition
Fri 21 Mar 2025From the 3rd to the 14th of March, Marland Hill and 8 other schools started a times tables competition. Over the course of the two weeks, our children were amazing and we won by over 2000 points!!! What a fantastic achievement and we are all so proud.

Fri 21 Mar 2025It's that time again, we are sure you'll be ready for your refills! The next eco shop will be held on Tuesday 25th March from 3pm-3.30pm on the playground outside MUGA 1.

World Maths Day
Fri 21 Mar 2025On Wednesday 26th of March is World Maths Day. The school will be celebrating it by completing reasoning and problem-solving tasks throughout the week. We will add these to the newsletter to share and celebrate.

Appointments in school time

Easter Egg Competition
Fri 21 Mar 2025School Council are running an Easter
competition over this term. They will be selling Easter Egg templates from Monday. The
children can design their egg as they wish, but MUST use the bought template. The closing date is Thursday 3rd April. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!
