In line with the Government’s White Paper recommendation, we are considering extending the length of the school day slightly from September, and are consulting with parents about this. From September we are proposing:
Nursery 9.00am – 12.00pm, and 12.00pm – 3.00pm
Reception, year 1 and year 2 – 8.50am – 3.20pm
Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 – 8.40am – 3.10pm
We will be continuing with the staggered start and finish times to support with the safe handover of children, particularly around the years 1 and 4 doors, which would otherwise be overcrowded.
We still intend to offer a range of after school activities, and information about these would be shared with you at the start of each term, in line with our current practise.
I appreciate that these changes may have some impact on your current home time arrangements, including childcare or working patterns. If you wish to share your thoughts on these changes, please send your emails to the school office by the 1st March. office@marlandhill.rochdale.sch.uk
In line with our arrangements to keep parents informed of what their child is learning in school, next week the children will once again be bringing home the knowledge organisers and homework tasks for the next half term.
We would appreciate your support in ensuring homework tasks are completed, and returned to school. It would also be beneficial to your child if you looked at and discussed the content of the knowledge organiser at intervals across the half term, enabling your child to share with you what they are learning in class.
A reminder that we will breaking up for the February half term next Friday 17th February.
We have had a number of cases of head lice across the school and would like to encourage you to check your child’s hair regularly. You may have received an email or a letter if your child’s class is affected and this includes all the information you need to treat your child.
If you take your child to a prescribing pharmacy you may be entitled to free treatment or alternatively you can click on the link below for more information:

Year 2 have been busy In Design Technology, they have been learning all about fire engines, their purpose and their important features. They designed their own fire engines and then spent the day making them.
In Computing children have been learning about programming robots using BeeBots.
This week they have created maps in groups
and written algorithms to program our BeeBot around the map. For an extra challenge, we put obstacles that the BeeBot couldn't touch on
our map. Well Done!
This term, every week we will be looking at children’s attendance and all those children who have 100% attendance for the week will be put in to a draw to win 10 Dojos. There will be one random winner from each class. To ensure your child is entered into this weekly draw, all you have to do is make sure they are in school on time every day. Thank you for your continued support.
