  • Parent Page—Handling school drop off anxiety

    Fri 30 Jan 2026

Separation anxiety is a normal part of child development. Young children switch between wanting to be independent and needing to cling to the security of a parent/carer. If your child is shy or timid you will find helping them cope with separation will make them more confident in school and improve their education.

Tips for effective transitions in to school.

    · Let your child know you are leaving in a predictable routine way. Do not sneak away to avoid a tantrum as this will only increase your child’s anxiety.

    · Say goodbye briefly and say something positive about their time away from you. i.e. “I will see you later, have a lovely time playing with your friends today.”

    · Let them know who will be picking them up and when. i.e. “Daddy is picking you up at 3.20.”

    · Encourage your child’s independence by giving simple instructions. i.e. “hang your coat up and go and sit on the carpet.”

    · Avoid giving to much attention to your child’s normal protests.

    · Separate quickly and allow school staff to comfort your child if needed.

    · When you return let your child know you are happy to see them and show interest in their day.

  • Year Group Focus—Year 2

    Fri 30 Jan 2026

Spring 1 has been a great half term in year 2! This half term’s History topic was the Great Fire of London which the children have used to inspire diary entries in their writing.

In DT, year 2 have been designing and evaluating their fire engines and learning the importance of free and fixed axles. They will begin making them next week!

Unfortunately, because of the weather out Great Fire of London workshop was postponed. However, this did not stop us and we still had a lovely morning recreating our own art work to re create London and the fire burning. This will then help us with our English writing as we are learning how to write a diary entry.

In Maths this half-term, we have been learning about multiplication and division, using practical resources to help us share equally and write number sentences using the division and multiplication symbols.
