I’m writing to invite you, your colleagues, your families and friends to our PLAYTIME week long programme of events here at Rochdale Town Hall.  PLAYTIME at Rochdale Town Hall celebrates the simple but transformative idea that play  is a powerful tool for learning, imagination, and connection.

Research across cultural and heritage sectors consistently shows that playful experiences help people of all ages engage more deeply with history, architecture, and place. When visitors are invited to explore creatively, they don’t just observe heritage; they inhabit it, question it, and make it their own. By dedicating a week to play, we are embracing a growing movement within museums and historic sites that recognises creativity as essential to wellbeing, community belonging, and cultural participation. PLAYTIME invites everyone to step into Rochdale Town Hall with fresh eyes, imagine new possibilities within historic spaces, and experience heritage as a place of joy, exploration, and collective creativity.

  • Year Group Focus—Nursery

    Fri 12 Jun 2026

The children have really enjoyed taking part in squiggle whilst you wiggle this term.

The children have been making large movements to music before practising their mark making on the floor. They have also explored making marks in different materials in our outdoor tuff tray such as shaving foam, gloop and icing sugar. The children have enjoyed mark making outside, where they have been free to explore, create and make marks in different ways.

Our topic this term is Fantasy. Throughout the term, the children will be learning about a range of exciting themes including pirates, aliens, fairies, mythical creatures and superheroes. The children will have lots of opportunities to take part in imaginative play, creative activities and discussions linked to these themes.

We will also be reading a variety of stories linked to our fantasy topic. The children will be encouraged to talk about the characters and events in the stories, share their ideas and use their imaginations as well explore different fantasy worlds together.
