Please could we ask if anyone is a childminder or may know of anyone, for them to contact school so we could pass their details on as we have parents who are in need of before and after school childcare.
You can email the school office:
office@marlandhill.rochdale.sch.uk
Thank you.
This term, every week we will be looking at children’s attendance and all those children who have 100% attendance for the week will be put in to a draw to win 10 Dojos. There will be one random winner from each class. To ensure your child is entered into this weekly draw, all you have to do is make sure they are in school on time every day. Thank you for your continued support.

In Reception we have started our brand new topic, Ready Steady Grow beginning with our Talk Through Story of The Gigantic Turnip which the children linked back to our previous learning of The Enormous Turnip. It has been wonderful to see the children able to remember the key vocabulary and favourite phrases from the story. In our topic lessons so far we have been learning about where food comes from and using our senses to describe different fruits and vegetables – this was very popular and the children loved trying the different foods.
In our daily phonics lessons we are working hard to continue to learn new sounds and orally blend words. This is something that can be done at home. We use Fred talk to sound out a word e.g. c-a-t. We are getting ready to transition into year 1 so are developing our sentence writing and trying to remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In our provision, the children have also been extending their learning by, for example, finding ways to pull and heave, and tug and yank tyres and large boxes across the playground which develops gross motor skills – we saw some lovely partnerships, fantastic communication and wonderful problem solving skills.
Our maths work this half term has continued to develop counting to 10 and then 20 and beyond. We have been using different objects to count with and practised strategies different ways that we can make this easier (putting the objects in a line) we have also develop strategies with how to count when objects cannot be moved. The classed decided it would be best to cross them out as they were counting them. We can’t wait to see what else they learn to do next!
