It is Children in Need on Friday 16th November. Children are invited to come to school in spotty clothes or pyjamas for a donation of £1. All money raised will be going to Children in Need.
Our Year 5 school council members took part in an activity day at Ashworth Valley on Wednesday, alongside children from other IPLCN schools. They made tea-lights, and took part in archery, shelter building, go-karting and even had crumpets by a campfire! Great fun was had by everyone.
Well done to the children that took part in the Archery Festival on Tuesday. They cam second overall. Well done!
Next week, week commencing 12th November, children at Marland Hill will be undertaking activities for Science Week. During this week your child will be walking to the forest school site, just down the road on Roch Valley Way. They will take part in an outdoor learning session to supplement the class based science session. Your child will need suitable clothing and footwear to be in school all of this week, a waterproof coat, warm jumper, wellies or walking boots. Please can you put wellies/outdoor shoes in a plastic bag with your child’s name clearly labelled. All children will be taking part so this extra footwear is essential as the woods will be very muddy.
On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th November children will be taking part in science workshops. We will be visited by real scientists who will work with the children to do hands on science experiments. We are asking parents to contribute £1 per child to help towards the cost of this visit.
Children may get some science homework next week and we encourage children to bring in examples of science experiments/projects to show their class. There will be prizes for the best ones
We have CGP revision book available from the school office for Year 6 in English, English Grammar, Maths and English and Maths practice papers. We also have CGP revision books available for English, Reading and Maths for Year 2.
All books cost £3 each.
Next week it is anti bullying week. We have chosen the theme ‘respect’ and we will be having an odd sock day on Monday 12th November, this will help us look at individuality. We are not asking for any donations for this.

School Council members will be selling them near tuck shop. Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2 will have the opportunity to buy them too. School Council will come to their class. Please see below for the extra poppy related items that children may also buy.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Halloween disco. We had a 'spook'tacular time with lots of monster dancing. Your costumes were frightfully wonderful. A special thank you goes to the PTA for doing an incredible job for what was their first time in charge. Thanks to those of you who have already fed back to the PTA with ideas and comments. These will, of course, be taken on board for next year. Thank you!
If you think your child may be eligible for a Free School Meal then it is vital that you complete a Free School Meal form. Schools are eligible to receive additional funding in relation to this which is vital for us in order to be able to purchase resources for school. Throughout next week these forms will be available from the school office and for each fully completed form a raffle ticket will be issued. You will need to complete a new form if you have completed one in the past to be able to enter our draw. The raffle will be drawn on Friday 9th November and the winner will receive an All New Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet. Good luck to all entries!
