Welcome back to a new school year. I hope you all had a lovely summer, and are ready for the new year. We would also like to welcome a number of new staff to school: Miss Valentine in Reception, Miss Bohuslaw in Year 2, Mr Wood in Year 3, Miss Sharma in Year 5, and Mrs Cassell in Year 6, as well as to welcome back Mr Rigg, our Acting Deputy Headteacher. I am sure you will join me in welcoming them to Marland Hill. As ever, the leadership team continues with their open door policy, so if you have anything you wish to discuss, please call into the office to arrange a time to come in.
Our first parent drop-in this term will be held on 16th September at 9am. Mrs Pridgeon, our Acting Headteacher, will be on hand to meet with any parents who wish to attend for an informal chat and refreshments. Please come along!
Please may we remind parents that children must always have their P.E. Kits in school. This can be left in school for the whole half term, and sent home with children for a wash during school holidays. Please observe, as explained below, that P.E. kits should be plain, with no logos, and each item should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Thank you for your continued support.
Next Friday 13th September, our Year 4 children will be visiting Rochdale Pioneer's Museum in relation to their topic for the Autumn term. Letters have been sent home with your children this week. Please sign and return the permission slip to school asap. A copy can be collected from the school office if required. Thank you for your co-operation.
Mr Rimmer’s Year 4 Class will start their swimming lessons next Tuesday (10th Sept). Please remember to send your child into school with a towel and a swimming costume / trunks. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name. If you have yet to return your consent form, we request that you do so urgently. Copies can be collected from the school office. Mr Hudson’s Year 4 class will be starting their swimming lessons later on in the school year, and parents will be notified nearer to the time.
I am delighted that Mrs Pridgeon will be the Acting Headteacher from September and under her leadership, with the support of all stakeholders including that of the Acting Deputy Headteacher Mr Rigg, I have no doubt that the school will continue to go from strength to strength.

On behalf of the children, staff, parents and Governors of Marland Hill, we would like to say ‘Thank you’ to Mrs Cunningham for all she has done over the last 5 years. I am sure you will join us in wishing her well on her new role as Executive Headteacher.
After a wonderful assembly in which we said goodbye, we all enjoyed a picnic lunch outside. We hope we made it a day to remember for all the staff and children.
There are a number of staff leaving our school at the end of the academic year and I am sure that you will join me in thanking them for all their hard work and commitment they have shown to the school.

As you are all aware, I too will be leaving Marland Hill at the end of the academic year to take up an Executive Headteacher post in Oldham. I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure and a privilege to be the Headteacher here at Marland Hill over the past 5 years – it is genuinely a very special place to be.
