Year 6
This half term in English, Year 6 have been learning all about the Titanic. We’ve enjoyed researching the ship and, using everything we found out, we’ve written our own adverts to tempt people to travel in first class!
In Art, we have been learning about Lowry. We looked at his artwork and used this to inspire our own final piece. In Design and Technology, we’ve been exploring sustainability and thinking about what we can do to help our planet. We tested lots of different eco-friendly bags to see how durable they were by completing a weight test. We discovered that tote bags are both cost-effective and strong. Because of this, we’ll be designing and making our own tote bags. To help us be as sustainable as possible, we’re collecting donations—so if you have any clean, unwanted clothes or fabric, we’d really appreciate them for our project!
In Computing, we’ve been learning how computers communicate with each other. We found out that information is sent in data packets. We even made a model in class and sent our own “data packets” across the room using individual IP addresses to make sure every message reached the right person.
This term, we also finished our History topic on the Victorians. The children loved finding out how local children lived and worked in the past, and they had a brilliant time visiting the Pioneers Museum. We’ve now begun our Geography topic, where we will be learning all about Texas.
We’ve also been thinking about our futures by learning about different careers and education pathways. We were lucky to be visited by local businesses and professionals for a careers afternoon. They told us all about their jobs and how they got into them. The children asked fantastic questions and loved having a go at some parts of their roles.
A polite reminder that any non urgent appointments should be made outside of school times to not disrupt your child’s learning time in school.
Please when making routine appointments bear this in mind.
Thank you for your continued support.
School Council will be running their eco shop at the Christmas Fair on Wednesday 3rd December between 3.30pm-4.15pm. Please bring along your 500ml plastic container(s) ready to refill on the day. Don't worry, if you forget, we will have some plastic containers to purchase on the day (only 10p)! Please remember it is CASH ONLY! We would really appreciate it if you could bring the correct change where possible.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Children will have their lunch there. If your child normally has a school dinner then a grab bag will be provided for them on the day. If your child normally has a packed lunch then they will need to bring a packed lunch as normal.
The cost of the trip will be £6. This is a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the visit and transport. The cost of the visit has been heavily subsidised by school. If we do not receive sufficient funds we will have to cancel the visit.

On Wednesday, School Council visited Hampton by Hilton in Rochdale. Laura (Sales Advisor) gave the children a tour of the hotel. They were then given the opportunity to meet and greet staff who all had different job roles. The children were encouraged to ask questions about the hospitality trade, which they took full advantage of!
