  • School Crossing Patrol Information

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

    Dear Parent

The purpose of providing School Keep Clear markings is to keep the space outside of schools free from parked vehicles so that children can be seen more easily when crossing the road.

School 'keep clear' markings. These are shown as yellow zigzag markings directly outside a school. No vehicles should park on the zigzag or even stop to set down passengers whilst the restrictions are in force.

There are School Keep Clear markings present outside schools within the Rochdale Borough. These markings are enforceable, meaning motorists observed parking or dropping off passengers can be issued with a fine by either an enforcement officer who is patrolling the area or by the camera enforcement vehicle.

Keep entrance clear of stationary vehicles, even if picking up or setting down children

Can you please not stop on the keep clear markings outside your child’s school and keep all school children safe when crossing the road.

  • Is my child too ill for School?

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell.

There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.

If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone school on the first day. Let us know that your child won't be in and give the reason. You can also report absences on Parent Mail.

If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know.

For more information, please check the NHS website: Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

  • Action for early years settings and schools: Measles vaccination uptake

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Action for early years settings and schools: measles vaccination uptake

Measles can be very serious and spreads easily. Children and adults who contract measles can end up in hospital or suffer long term health consequences. In rare cases, it can be fatal.

Measles is completely preventable with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The first dose is offered to children at 1 year of age and the second dose at 3 years and 4 months. Measles outbreaks happen when not enough children have been vaccinated and can be very disruptive in educational settings.

We are grateful for the support of early years settings, encouraging families to take up the vaccine.

Schools are also encouraged to remind parents to check that their children’s vaccines are up to date. You can catch up on your MMR vaccine through your GP whatever your age.

Information resources (including in different languages) are available to download and share, including:

  • Fundraising

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Over the course of September, we will be holding 2 fundraising events to raise money for cancer charities that are close to the hearts of our school community.

On 19th September we will be holding a non-uniform day for the children, and asking for donations. This day would have been the birthday of one of our pupils, Saqib Ahmed, who we sadly lost to a cancerous brain tumour 2 years ago.

We are also hoping to take part in the McMillan Coffee Morning on 29th September, and would like to invite parents to this. Please send any donations of cake in to the school office by Thursday 28th September. This will be in memory of a member of staff, Tracy Affleck, who lost her fight with cancer last term.

All money raised from the 2 events will be split between 3 charities – Milly’s Smile, McMillan, and Springhill Hospice. Thank you in advance for your support with these events.
