Year 3 have been working incredibly hard this term and have shown fantastic enthusiasm across all areas of their learning.
In Science, Year 3 have been learning about light and how we are able to see. The children explored how light travels and discovered that shadows are formed when an object blocks a light source. They enjoyed creating their own shadows using torches and a variety of toys, investigating how the size and shape of shadows can change.
In Geography, we have been learning about our local area, exploring its human and physical features and discovering what makes our community special. The children are looking forward to going on a walk around our local area next week, where they will have the opportunity to put their learning into practice and observe their surroundings first-hand.
In Design and Technology, Year 3 have been exploring the importance of healthy eating and making balanced food choices. As part of their learning, the children enjoyed tasting a variety of breads and discussing the ingredients that make a healthy sandwich. They are looking forward to putting their knowledge into practice next week by designing and creating their own healthy sandwiches!
We do still have morning and afternoon nursery places available in September 2026. If you are interested please pick up an application form from the school office.
Thank you.
At Marland Hill, we are learning a new sign every week. Why not learn with us at home too!
Every week children that display good manners are chosen to sit at the Captain’s Table for dinner. Well done to the following children that have been selected to sit at the Captain’s Table.

Please can you support the safety of our school community by driving and parking around school grounds in a considerate way. We have recently had an incident where a car has been abandoned in front of the school car park causing congestion on Roch Mills Crescent.
Please can you also be mindful of your speed around the school roads, as there are lots of pedestrians in this area at drop off
and pick up times
Thank you for your support.
