Spring 1 has been an excellent half term in year 2! This half term’s topic was the Great Fire of London, which the children have been learning lots about in history and have also written diary entries as Samuel Pepys in English.
In DT, year 2 have been designing, creating and evaluating their fire engines and learning the importance of free and fixed axles.
Year 2 have also participated in a Great Fire of London workshop this half term. On the school field the children were able to discuss what they know about the great fire of London and create walls out of sticks and mud – much like back in 1666. They also used natural resources to build a bakery to protect their mini Thomas Farrier. It was a messy day but we had lots of fun!
A reminder that Marland Hill will not authorise any leave within term time, this is following the Department of Education's Initiative: Working Together to Improve School Attendance 2024. Our policy has been approved by our Board of Governors. If you decide to take leave within term time, it is important you inform the school and sign a 'notification of absence form'. There is further information regarding the Fixed Penalty Notices, which will be issued if you miss 10 or more sessions, attached at the end of the newsletter.
