Congratulations to 5B who won the battle of the bands competition on TTRS against 5A.
They have won house points and we will see who wins next half terms competition.

After half term we have a new school dinner menu. Please see page 10. If after half term you wish to change your child’s meal pattern you must email office: office@marlandhill.rochdale.sch.uk no later than Wednesday 29th October.
Meal patterns are set per half term and cannot be changed in between. Thank you.
This week we found out that we have been nominated for the Raising Rochdale awards for our ‘Commitment to Inclusion’. Whilst we weren’t unfortunately shortlisted for the final, it is a fantastic achievement, and lovely to know that our work towards inclusion has been recognised. Well done to all the staff in school for this.
Well done to Albi and Olivia for being chosen as Breakfast Club Superstars!
Here are some photos from Breakfast Club.
Year 2 have taken the first few weeks of the year by storm! They have enthusiastically thrown themselves right into learning, leaving year 2 staff very impressed.
In Autumn 1 we had a history focus, learning about Florence Nightingale and her work in the Crimean War. We looked at all the ways Florence helped to stop disease from spreading and the children enjoyed writing a thank you letter to a real life nurse that visited us in school. In Autumn 2 we have a Geography focus of the Artic, learning all about the people and animals that live in the North Pole.
In Art we have been looking at a sculptor called Antony Gormley. We explored the different scales of sculptures, looking at patterns and materials. The children particularly enjoyed looking at one of his famous statues, the Angel of the North. We have been using clay to make our own sculpture of Florence Nightingale's owl, Athena. We are very much looking forward to sticking on the feathers! Next term we will be making puppets in DT!
Next half term, we are excited to be going on a school trip to Northwood Farm! Year 2 will learn all about what food is made on farms. They will stroke sheep, watch cows and baby calves and even feed chickens!
Over the last 2 weeks, Year 5 have had the pleasure of walking to Castleton Library to be involved in a poetry workshop ran by Rochdale's very own Poet Laureate Sammy Weaver. The children were able to listen to some of her amazing poetry and were given the opportunity to create their very own poetry, inspired by potions and spells to make the world a better place.
Sammy shared lots of interesting insight into the life of a poet, including how she lives on a narrow boat! The children really enjoyed getting stuck in and produced some really incredible and imaginative spells that they loved sharing with each other and the class. This session has really helped the children with their creative writing with some even deciding to write their own stories as a result!
The next reading workshop will be as follows:
· Friday 24th October - Year 1
· Friday 14th November—Reception
They will be taking place in the school hall 2.30pm-3pm.
· Friday 21st November—Nursery (More information to follow regarding morning and afternoon timings).
Tea/Coffee will be provided.
We look forward to seeing you there!
