Please note that when bringing your child to school they must be accompanied by an adult to the doors and must not be allowed to come into school by themselves or left at the school gates. This is to ensure the safety of your children.
Following the success of last term’s workshops we will be inviting parents in again this term to promote the benefits of positive reading with your child. Parents/carers are invited to attend, tea/coffee will be provided. The dates are as follows:
Monday 23rd Jan – Year 4
Monday 6th Feb – Year 3
Sessions will run 9.00am-9.30am.
As a school, we are working on promoting a love of reading and it would be great to have parents as positive reading role models for the children. We hope to see as many parents as possible.
A reminder that there will be no recorders next week, this will re-commence on Tuesday 31st January. Thank you.
We have a small number of places for beginners flute and brass lessons. If you are interested then please email the school:
office@marlandhill.rochdale.sch.uk
A reminder that Miss Wright’s class (5A) will be going swimming on Tuesday 7th February. Please can you ensure that you complete the swimming consent form on parent mail as soon as possible. This can be found in the forms section. Thank you.
This term, every week we will be looking at children’s attendance and all those children who have 100% attendance for the week will be put in to a draw to win 10 Dojos. There will be one random winner from each class. To ensure your child is entered into this weekly draw, all you have to do is make sure they are in school on time every day. Thank you for your continued support.
In PSHE Year 2 have been thinking about 'negotiation'. Pupils were set the challenge of creating a tower as a team but they were only given limited materials! Teams had to negotiate with each other to get everything they needed to build their towers. Everyone showed great negotiation skills and worked hard on their team working.
As part of their history topic, Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London and will be visiting the Rochdale Firehouse on the following dates:
Year 2A Mrs Tahir: Wednesday 8th February
Year 2B Miss Moulton: Monday 6th February
There is a voluntary contribution of £7.50 but if we do not receive enough to pay then we may have to cancel the visit.
Please can you complete the consent form as soon as possible. (This can be found in the forms section.) To pay you will need to go to payments/then shop. Thank you.
Early Years thoroughly enjoyed their visit from Rochdale Fire Service this week as part of their topic on ‘People who help us’. The firefighters gave the children a real life experience of what it is like to be a firefighter, showing them all the equipment they use and showing the children around a fire engine!
Further to our plans to develop reading for pleasure, we are looking at setting up a ‘book swap’ opportunity in the foyer. This will enable you to call in and borrow a book to read at home with your child, then return it and choose another when you are ready. If you would like to donate any good quality books for this, please send them into school.
