If you are the parent of a child with a special educational need or disability it can be challenging at times but you are not alone and support is available.

Our main topic of discussion this term will be young children’s mental health. Staff from the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) will be available to talk through their service. They will also be able to talk about other services available. There will be information to take away to support young people’s mental health.

Come and join us for a chat. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

    Toilet training

You can start training your child to use the toilet as soon as they start to show signs that they are ready. This is usually between two and three years old but all children are different. It is important to only train your child when the time is right for you and your child.

    Signs of toilet readiness

    · Your child can stay dry for three or more hours

    · Your child recognises when they need to wee or poo

    · Your child can pull their pants up and down themselves

    · Your child is showing interest in using the toilet

    · Your child is imitating others going to the bathroom

    · Your child is able to follow simple instructions

    Getting started

    · Dress your child in clothes that are easy for them to manage i.e. pants with an elasticated waist

    · Introduce your child to the potty or toilet at times they are most likely to need go i.e. after mealtimes

    · Do not restrain your child or force them to sit on the toilet or potty for long periods.

    · Praise or reward your child every time they use the toilet.

    · Take your child to the toilet regularly, at least every hour when you are starting out.

    · Teach your child how to flush the toilet and wash their hands after using the toilet

    · Expect setbacks. Do not make a big deal out of accidents. Use statements such as “it’s okay, I bet you make it to the toilet/ potty next time.”

    · Do not rush to get your child out of nappies at night-time; this   usually takes much longer than being dry during the day.

  • Year Group Focus—Reception

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

The Reception children have made a fabulous start to the second half of the Spring term. We have started a new topic called ‘New life, Growth and Change’. The children have focused on two books, The Extraordinary Gardener and Oliver’s Vegetables. They have learnt all about growing plants and vegetables and have been participating in the following activities: planting their own seeds and looking after them by placing them in the sun and watering them, exploring a range of vegetables, painting flowers and writing words and sentences linked to the texts they have read.

They are also delighted to have a new role play area, the Marland Garden Centre and are able to play in this area during their continuous provision time. We would like to thank all parents and carers who came to the Reading Afternoon on Monday. The children really enjoyed reading with their family members. Hopefully more parents and carers can come next time.

  • Reception Maths Workshop

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

On Monday 10th March Reception parents/carers are invited to a Maths workshop after school from 3.30pm to 4pm. This workshop is to inform parents what we hope their children will achieve by the end of the Reception year. It will include ideas and strategies to enable parents to support their children with their learning at home. We would really appreciate it if parents/carers could take the time to attend, as this will benefit you and your children’s learning. The best outcomes for children occur when parents/carers and school work together. If you would like to attend please come to the Reception doors.

    Thank you.
