Year 1 have had a great start to spring term and have been working really hard. We have been busy rewriting the story How to Catch a Star by our class author Oliver Jeffers and learning how to use personal pronouns.
We have continued our work with phonics and now you should be able to access phonics videos at home by scanning the QR code in your children’s reading record, this will support your child’s learning and links to what they have been doing at school.
In maths, we have been focussing on numbers to 20 and have been using addition and subtraction strategies. Our next unit is focusing on numbers to 50!
As a part of our art topic, we have been learning all about Alan Bean and creating art work in his style.
At Marland Hill, we are learning a new sign every week. Why not learn with us at home too!
Every week children that display good manners are chosen to sit at the Captain’s Table for dinner. Well done to the following children that have been selected to sit at the Captain’s Table.

On Thursday, three Year 6 children visited Broadfield Primary School to take part in a workshop for gifted and talented writers. The children were exceptionally well-behaved.
On Wednesday children from Marland Hill attended an Art Workshop at Rochdale College and had a great time!
Please can children who come to school on their bikes be supervised and asked to be cautious on school grounds. Thank you.
As part of their History topic, Year 4 will be having a visit from the Balestra Living History Project who will be doing a workshop named: The Roman Britain Primary History workshop. This will take place on Tuesday 10th February. This is an exciting opportunity for the children.
On the day the children will be taking part in different workshops led by a Roman expert. They will have the chance to handle Roman artefacts and will be trained like Roman soldiers. The children will have the opportunity to use equipment to create different army formations. The children will also create an interactive timeline. This will be a full day workshop. For more information please visit: www.romanschoolworkshop.co.uk
School will be heavily subsiding the cost, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £4. You can pay for this on parent mail by going to payments/shop.
We still have places for the KS2 Choir on Thursdays until 4pm. Places are free.
If you are interested you can email school: office@marlandhill.rochdale.sch.uk.
Thank you.
