  • Parent Page— Rochdale Borough Children’s Champions

    Fri 13 Mar 2026

Many of you were celebrating World Book Day last week in some amazingly creative ways and it has been great to see children’s passion and enjoyment of ready.  As many of you are aware, with it being the National Year of Reading, the Rochdale Borough Children’s Champions are working hard to raise awareness of and increase the use of library services.  We are in the process of putting together a library map, a pledge for the LA, getting funding for box libraries in parks and soon to launch a bookmark competition (watch this space!).  One area where the children would really appreciate your help is getting information from parents.

There are just 4 questions here which the children’s council want to ask as many parents as possible.  Could we please ask you to include these questions in your newsletters, surveys you send out to parents or any other means of contact you use to gather information and feed answers back to us?  This will really help us find out what steps we need to take to help enable more children to use libraries and enjoy reading.

    1. With libraries being a great place for education, socialising and reducing screen time, could you please share any reasons why you do not take your children to local libraries and what would help you use them more?

    2. Are you aware of opportunities in addition to books at your local library such as craft, games, lego and holiday challenges which are free and  often have awards, gift bags and certificates?

    3. Are you and your children aware of how to find and return books to the right place at your library?

    4. Do you know where your local library is, when it is open and how to access it?  If not, where would be the best place to share this information?

  • House Colours

Today we held a ‘Wear Your Colours’ Day. The children came into school in their own clothes representing their house colour, to celebrate their house achievements and received double house points. Everyone looks amazing!

  • Year Group Focus—Year 6

    Fri 13 Mar 2026

In history, our topic is WW2. This week, we looked at the use of propaganda and designed our own posters. We will be seeing some real life examples of posters when we go to the Imperial War Museum next week!

In DT this term, we will be making model Anderson shelters. The children have been learning about Anderson shelters in History, and they are now applying this knowledge to design and create their own models.

As part of this project, the children have been practising how to measure different lengths of wood accurately. They have also been learning how to use a saw safely to cut the wood for their structures.

For the past few months, three year 6 children have been working with The Real Trust on a gifted and  talented programme. The children have really enjoyed working with children from other schools and    completed exciting and engaging tasks. Over the three sessions the children have written and recorded their own podcast, solved mysteries, researched and made their own creatures before making their own book based on their creature.
