Year 1 enjoyed the Circus workshop in school.
This term the reading workshops will be as follows:
· Tuesday 6th February—Year 5
· Tuesday 13th February—Year 4
Sessions will run 9.00am-9.30am. Tea/coffee will be provided. As a school, we are working on promoting a love of reading and it would be great to have parents as positive reading role models for the children. We hope to see as many parents as possible.
What a busy couple of weeks we have had since returning to school. Our topic for this half term is a history focus, looking at how transport has changed over time. So far we have looked at how trains and boats have changed and been developed over the years. On Wednesday we had our school trip to the Museum of Transport in Manchester. The Museum tells the story of public road transport in Greater Manchester from its very beginnings in 1824 to the present day. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how buses have changed over the years. We also learned how uniforms and ticket machines have developed too. A highlight of the day was getting to eat our lunch on one of the old buses and an old tram!

The following children have been awarded ‘Star Reader’ and enjoyed going to the ‘Starbooks’ cafe in the library to enjoy a drink and a treat as their reward. Fantastic!

Linked to our topic, in art we are looking at the work of Alan Bean. Alan Bean was a NASA astronaut who walked on the moon on Apollo 12. After 18 years he resigned as an astronaut to paint pictures of the remarkable worlds and sights he had seen. On each of his pieces of work, he uses moon dust that he brought back from the moon and always leaves an imprint of his moon boot. We have been using a range of materials including metallic paint, flour, coloured sand, glitter and tin foil to create our own space themed backdrop, inspired by the work of Alan Bean. We also left an imprint of our shoes, using wellies and paint. Over the next few weeks we will be designing and making our own clay alien to sit in front of our backdrops.

Year 3 visited the Manchester Museum as part of their topic work on Ancient Egyptians. More information to follow next week.
