Together we will achieve more!

Year Group Focus - Year 3

The focus of our learning over the half term has been the Ancient Egyptians and as part of this, in art, we have been making Ancient Egyptian themed foil art. One of our inspirations for our design was the work of Friendensreich Hundertwasser, who was a famous artist and architect who used lots of vivid colour and curved lines within his own artwork and designs. Firstly, we had to design our own god or goddess to be the focal point of out piece before using tools to create different patterns and textures in the foil. From there we used Sharpie markers to add colour to our work. We think you will agree, the results are pretty spectacular!

In one of our history lessons, we looked at the different stages of mummification. As you can imagine, the idea of scraping the brain out through the nostrils using a hook wasn’t the best subject to discuss just after lunch! We have also been looking at what life might have been like as an Egyptian pharaoh, which made lots of us feel slightly envious!

In science we have recently been looking at the different reasons why we have a skeleton (support,  movement and protection). To help us get our heads round this, we made moving skeletons, which we brought home yesterday, and added important organs to show how the skeleton protects them.
