Together we will achieve more!

Year Group Focus—Year 6

Year 6

This half term in English, Year 6 have been learning all about the Titanic. We’ve enjoyed researching the ship and, using everything we found out, we’ve written our own adverts to tempt people to travel in first class!

In Art, we have been learning about Lowry. We looked at his artwork and used this to inspire our own final piece. In Design and Technology, we’ve been exploring sustainability and thinking about what we can do to help our planet. We tested lots of different eco-friendly bags to see how durable they were by completing a weight test. We discovered that tote bags are both cost-effective and strong. Because of this, we’ll be designing and making our own tote bags. To help us be as sustainable as possible, we’re    collecting donations—so if you have any clean, unwanted clothes or fabric, we’d really appreciate them for our project!

In Computing, we’ve been learning how computers communicate with each other. We found out that information is sent in data packets. We even made a model in class and sent our own “data packets” across the room using individual IP addresses to make sure every message reached the right person.

This term, we also finished our History topic on the Victorians. The children loved finding out how local children lived and worked in the past, and they had a brilliant time visiting the Pioneers Museum. We’ve now begun our Geography topic, where we will be learning all about Texas.

We’ve also been thinking about our futures by learning about different careers and education pathways. We were lucky to be visited by local businesses and professionals for a careers afternoon. They told us all about their jobs and how they got into them. The children asked fantastic questions and loved having a go at some parts of their roles.
