Year 5 have had a very busy week, this week!
On Monday, the children took part in a really exciting and engaging PE lesson on the field. The children played a match of Jag Tag which is a version of American Football. The aim was to get the ball forward and past the line to score a point. The children really enjoyed this lesson in the sunshine, learning the skills of a new sport with their friends!
It was World Math's Day on Wednesday and all of year 5 took part in answering some very tricky reasoning and problem-solving question focused on their fluency in number. The children had to think about different ways to express parts and whole and produced some really lovely work using bar models. WE were so impressed by the high-quality questioning from both classes and could see a real improvement in their mathematical problem-solving skills. Well done Year 5!
In English, the children completed their final drafts, producing a detailed set of instructions on how to make scones. The children will be following their recipes next week when we get the opportunity to bake cheesy scones for DT!
In science, the children were investigating moon craters and conducted an experiment using a sand pit and different balls to determine if the height of an object dropped does affect the size of a crater made. This led into some in-depth discussions about the features and look of our moon and how its craters have been formed over the many years! 5B also spent a lesson researching an aspect of the Solar System of their choice and were able to present their findings in any way they liked. We saw posters on the biggest Black Hole and interesting information pages on our different planets. The children were able to gain so much information about their chosen specialty and, through a class presentation and peer evaluation, learn so much about our Solar System as a whole! It was a great lesson!
