Numbers Count
The Numbers Count programme is a mathematics intervention where support is given by a specialist teacher to children who have the greatest difficulties in number application. These children are taught the skill of applying number knowledge in order to get back on track and develop confidence in Mathematics.
The Numbers Count teacher teaches children for half an hour, three to four days per week, using detailed diagnostic assessment to plan a programme which is tailored to each child’s needs.
Rigorous, lively and stimulating lessons focus on building on mathematical knowledge, developing independent strategies and vocabulary, ensuring that children have the skills and motivation to enjoy success at mathematics.
Each session ensures that children have the opportunity to repeatedly practice number knowledge and skills before learning to apply them. Each day will begin with a review of a familiar strategy, followed by developing or applying a new concept. The following day children will review their previous learning and will work on this until it is secure.
